I went to go purchase the iPhone today at my local Apple Store and was immediately thrown a curve ball. To transfer over my cell number with AT&T, the only legal U.S. provider of phone service to the iPhone, I needed to have my current cell phone info. Since I didn’t always keep a copy of my cell phone bill on my person, this trip was a swing and a miss. I had the idea that I could buy the iPhone at the Apple store, walk over to the AT&T store that was conveniently located in the mall, give them my cell number, prove I was me and things would be all set. That’s what happens when you assume. It turns out the no-fuss-no-muss way to buy an iPhone is fill out some forms on line, and basically pre-order the iPhone. When you go into the store they access your order with one of those holstered registers they carry around and you’re out in just a couple minutes. We’ll see how easy it goes on my next time up to bat.
